Diversifying Faculty in Illinois

The Illinois General Assembly established the Diversifying Faculty in Illinois program formerly the Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program (ICEOP)] in 1985 to increase the number of underrepresented faculty and staff in Illinois institutions of higher education and higher education governing boards.

Applicants, who must be members of underrepresented groups, and who must be graduates of educational institutions in Illinois or be registered voters with at least three years of residency in the state, enter a statewide competition for awards for stipends of $12,500 to $16,000 per academic year.

Upon graduation an award recipient must accept a position in teaching or administration at an Illinois postsecondary educational institution, higher education governing board, or education-related state agency, or they must repay 20 percent of their award. Applications are available from the Graduate School and are due February 1.
